CALL FOR PAPERS
Feminist Media Studies - Commentary and Criticism & Reviews Section
The Commentary & Criticism (C&C) section of Feminist Media Studies is open to dialogue and debate concerning ideas and arguments published in the journal. Short papers of up to 1,500 words that address theoretical, methodological or epistemological concerns in response to a recent FMS issue are welcome. Reviews up to 1,000 words of books or other media (films, documentaries, videos) potentially of interest to feminist scholars are welcome.
We also invite contributions on the topic, “Feminist Media, Global Agendas, New Languages,” as a pertinent theme for C&C in the aftermath of the United Nations-initiated World Summit on the Information Society held in Tunis, November 2005. We wish, however, to shift the lens from Tunis to include emerging and alternative initiatives and visions for feminist communication on a transnational scale. What are the new languages in which women’s emancipation is articulated in global feminist communication/media networks?
How different are the activist languages that tackle the digital divide from older discourses of development? What are the new grammars of virtual media activism on women and gender issues? In what new vocabularies is the language of community, solidarity, and belonging now written? We invite your critical interpretations of the languages and forms in which feminist media networks, alliances, and organizations with international agendas, or international alliances that have specific women-oriented agendas speak to their audiences.
Contributors should follow the Harvard style of reference and guidelines for submission of manuscripts outlined on our website, http://www.tandf.co.uk/journals/titles/14680777.asp. The title page of the manuscript should contain the complete mailing address, institutional affiliation, and full contact information including phone and fax numbers, for authors.
Submissions must be saved and e-mailed as a Word attachment to both jane.arthurs(at)blueyonder.co.uk and to usha.zacharia(at)gmail.com.
The deadline is April 15, 2006.
